Thomas J. Esposito, MD, joins UnityPoint Health Methodist |
Proctor as Medical Director for two Wound Care Centers®
Peoria, IL. (May 6, 2016) – Thomas J. Esposito, M.D., has joined UnityPoint Health Methodist | Proctor as Medical Director for two Wound Care Centers.
Dr. Esposito will lead a team of wound care specialists at the Centers, which offer leading-edge treatments including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure therapies, bioengineered tissues, and biosynthetics to reintroduce the body's innate ability to heal. Once a patient’s chronic wound is healed, he or she will return to their primary care physician to continue non-wound related care.
Dr. Esposito received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and his Masters of Public Health from the University of Washington.
In joining the UnityPoint Health Methodist | Proctor Wound Care Centers, managed by Healogics, Dr. Esposito will collaborate with a network of academic medical centers, hospitals and thousands of professionals committed to advancing wound healing by creating, sharing, and activating wound prevention and care expertise.
Dr. Esposito has been a member of the American Trauma Society, American Public Health Association and the Society of Critical Care Medicine among others. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Chronic wounds affect 6.7 million people in the U.S. and the incidence is rising fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity and the late effects of radiation therapy.
